Later in the afternoon on Saturday, March 14th . . . the rain squalls diminished, and the off-shore Southerly winds dropped to 15 – 20 kts . . . the unique NE Swell still packed a punch with the faces walling up 15’ to 25’ feet . . . and about every 20 minutes a massive clean up set would come rumbling through dropping 30+ft bombs.<br /><br />The few kiteboarders and windsurfers from the earlier session had called it a day. . . Then a handful of surfers decided to paddle out past H’Poko channel to get to the big walls of water . . . No Tow-Ins here!! These guys made it out, and back in, all on their own. The surf should be in the <strong class="faces">10-15+ foot</strong> range at most breaks, although some of the better breaks and outer reefs may pick up larger sets. Select Upper West shores should pick this swell up around <strong class="faces">6-10 foot</strong> at the better spots while lesser breaks stay on the smaller side. With a few close calls and several friends on the water, including Nate Volk &amp; Mike Ness, we had the break pretty much to ourselves for the large part of 3-4 hours mid-day.<br /><br />The session started off slow as we dared the inside clean-ups in the varied winds. Upon finding our groove, we tempted fate and really went hard for every lip to destroy. This was the best kitesurfing session of my life as I was physically spent with a pearly white smile from ear to ear. If only we could all have a day like this...
