Spring Forward
SPRING FORWARD
“LANES”, North Shore, Maui . . . Late Saturday morning March 14th . . . the strong Kona Southerly winds carrying rain squalls roll up the coast from Kahului . . . 15 kt winds on the inside and 30+ kts on the outside – with 15’ to 25’ ft waves in-between! . . . making the launch over the reef treacherous . . . these conditions greatly narrowed the playing field to only a few kiteboarders and windsurfers crazy enough to give it try . . .

March Madness 2009
MARCH MADNESS
“H-Poko”, Ho’okipa”, North Shore, Maui . . . Later in the afternoon on Saturday, March 14th . . . the rain squalls diminished, and the off-shore Southerly winds dropped to 15 – 20 kts . . . the unique NE Swell still packed a punch with the faces walling up 15’ to 25’ feet . . . and about every 20 minutes a massive clean up set would come rumbling through dropping 30+ft bombs.
The few kiteboarders and windsurfers from the earlier session had called it a day. . . Then a handful of surfers decided to paddle out past H’Poko channel to get to the big walls of water . . . No Tow-Ins here!! These guys made it out, and back in, all on their own. Way cool.
